Forum: web Subject: Re: Very URGENT question: determining the date of archive

Hi, thank you for replying, but note the numbers embedded in the link I posted: 19990101000000-20000815235959.

Notice that it starts with 19990101000000 followed by a hyphen (unlike the example you give). My question is what is the meaning of the first set of numbers, and what is the meaning of the second set 20000815235959 (which I am guessing is the date August 15, 2000).

Note that this link was obtained by doing a date "range" search, and that when my search was changed to a date earlier than the 15th, no results came back. Can you, or anyone please, clarify this?

Important: attempts by me to have this archived page show up in any way other than by this hyphenated link have been unsuccessful. Using only the format you give as an example: 20000815235959 does not work. But shouldn't it?

as i understand, those two sets of numbers divided by hyphens are two date/time codes that are range of your search.

and guess what is written in the end of that page's code?

// FILE ARCHIVED ON 19991024115959 AND RETRIEVED FROM THE
// INTERNET ARCHIVE ON 20080414111832.
// JAVASCRIPT APPENDED BY WAYBACK MACHINE, COPYRIGHT INTERNET ARCHIVE.
// ALL OTHER CONTENT MAY ALSO BE PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT (17 U.S.C.
// SECTION 108(a)(3)).

isn't that the information you were looking for? the date is 1999.10.24.

Do all pages have such documentation?

I couldn't find it at the end of this page:

to see that you need to view your page's source code. that's what was there:

// FILE ARCHIVED ON 19981207000716 AND RETRIEVED FROM THE
// INTERNET ARCHIVE ON 20080524061637.
// JAVASCRIPT APPENDED BY WAYBACK MACHINE, COPYRIGHT INTERNET ARCHIVE.

thanks

i couldn't find any postings on the rate of errors in the date portion of URLs pointing to archived pages. Are there date of archiving errors? How often? Circumstances?
